A sure sign of Spring is the arrival each year of the new foals.  This year our first two home breds arrived on February 4th and both the mares and foals are doing well.

First to arrive was a lovely big filly by HARLAN'S HOLIDAY out of MY PAL LANA by KRIS S.  The mare is a multiple Stakes Winner and is booked back to multiple champion GIO PONTI (TALE OF THE CAT). 

The second arrival is another good sized filly by OLD FORESTER out of DRUIDESS by MALIBU MOON.  This is the second foal from the young mare and she will be bred back in Ontario to new sire VICTOR'S CRY (STREET CRY).

UNBRIDLED PRIDE a four year old filly by UNBRIDLED ENERGY is certainly living up to her name these days.  She has won four in a row and in her last 8 starts has won 5 and placed second 3 times.   She is the first foal of new farm mare SMART CATOMINE (SMART STRIKE) whose second foal CROWNS DYNASTY is stakes placed at Woodbine at 2 last year.  SMART CATOMINE is currently in foal to QUIET AMERICAN and will be bred back to the very promising Ontario stallion REBELLION (GB).

On Saturday January 21st the stallions at Norse Ridge Farm were shown off the Ontario Breeders.  New for 2012 at Norse Ridge are PERFECT SOUL (IRE) and GAYEGO.  Both are Grade 1 winners and have impressive resumes.   PERFECT SOUL (IRE)  is coming off his best year ever with a Breeders Cup winner in PERFECT SHIRL  and total earnings surpassing $3.5 Million in 2011.   GAYEGO (GILDED TIME) looked fantastic and the earner of $1.7 million on the track was gaining lots of admiring glances from the gathering.  He ran 8 triple digit beyer figures and set two track records at 6 1/2 furlongs and at a mile.  He has a big shot to make it as a stallion.  REBELLION (GB) is from a great sire line and has a wonderful family of top class sprinters and milers from Europe.  His first yearlings sold well at Keeneland two weeks ago to international buyers and he is surely a sleeper stallion that breeders would do well to pay attention too.  NOT BOURBON (NOT IMPOSSIBLE) is a champion at 3 in Canada and a track record setter at 2 at Woodbine.  He looked great and he has a lot going for him from his first book of mares bred last year.

The first REBELLION yearlings went through the ring on Wednesday at Keeneland.  The BBA (IRELAND) signed for one at $16,000 and Cara Bloodstock bought a colt (hip 964) out of a winning half sister to two Graded Stakes Winners from a productive family for $6,500. .The youngster  will be re-offered as a fall yearling in the agency consignment.   A lot of attendion is coming REBELLION'S way since another son of MOZART named AMADEUS WOLF started dominating the two year old  winners rankings in Europe.  Three more yearlings will sell tomorrow during the final session at Keeneland. The stallion is being given every chance to get off to a good start at stud by his owner's strong support.  He and the other stallions will be available January 21st for inspection at the Norse Ridge Frm at their open house in King City.
